Accessibility
What we target, what we have tested, what we know is not yet right, and how to tell us when something blocks you.
What we are aiming for
We build this site to meetWCAG 2.2 level AA. That is the standard referenced by the European Accessibility Act and by EN 301 549, and it is the standard we hold our client work to as well.
We make a partial conformance claim. The site has been built against WCAG 2.2 AA and tested as described below, but it has not been audited by an independent third party, and we have not had it tested by people who use assistive technology daily. Until both of those have happened, claiming full conformance would overstate what we know.
What we have tested
Assessed on.
Self-assessment: automated axe-core testing across every page template, plus manual keyboard traversal.
Specifically, on every page template:
- Automated testing with axe-core, in light and dark colour schemes, with zero critical or serious issues outstanding.
- Every colour pair in the design system computed against the WCAG contrast formula. The ratios are recorded in the source and a build check fails if one regresses.
- Keyboard traversal of each template: reaching every link, button and form control in a logical order, with a visible focus indicator throughout and no point at which focus becomes trapped.
- Rendering at 200% zoom and at 320 CSS pixels wide, without loss of content or function.
- Behaviour with JavaScript disabled, and with reduced motion requested.
Choices we made on purpose
- No accessibility overlay. We do not use a widget that claims to fix accessibility from the outside. They do not work, and they interfere with the assistive technology people already have set up.
- Status is never colour alone. Product status badges carry a text label and a shape, so they survive greyscale, forced-colours mode and colour vision deficiency.
- Almost no JavaScript. The only script on a public page is the mobile navigation toggle. With scripting off, the navigation stays visible rather than becoming unreachable.
- No motion that starts by itself. No carousel, no video that plays on arrival, no dialog on arrival.
Known limitations
These are the gaps we are aware of on the date above.
- No independent audit. Testing to date is our own. An external audit has not been commissioned.
- No testing with assistive technology users. We have run screen readers ourselves, which is not the same thing as watching someone who relies on one use the site.
- Content not yet published. Several pages are waiting on content, including the privacy, cookie and terms text. We cannot assess the readability or structure of text that does not exist yet, and those pages currently say so.
- Documents. We do not publish PDFs on this site today. If we start, each one needs its own accessibility work, and an untagged PDF is a barrier regardless of how good the page linking to it is.
- Third-party products. Our own products listed in the portfolio are separate services with their own accessibility positions. This statement covers this website only.
Telling us about a barrier
If something on this site stops you doing what you came to do, please tell us. You do not need to know why it is happening or what the standard says — describing what you were trying to do and what happened is enough.
Email hello@ebeneio.com, or use the contact page.
We aim to acknowledge a report within five working days and to tell you what we are going to do about it, including when we are not going to fix something and why.
If we do not resolve it
If you are not satisfied with our response, you can escalate it. In Estonia, complaints about accessibility can be raised with the Consumer Protection and Technical Regulatory Authority. Residents of other EU member states can use the enforcement body designated in their own country.
Reviewing this statement
We review this statement when the site changes materially, and at least once a year. The date at the top is the last time its contents were checked against the site as it then stood, not the last time any wording changed.
